Europe records more than 100 million COVID cases, over one-third of global tally

Europe has registered more than 100 million COVID-19 cases, which is over one-third of all COVID infections reported worldwide, since the start of the pandemic, revealed an AFP tally on Saturday.

The continent has again become the epicenter of the pandemic and is fighting a rise in cases driven by the Omicron variant of coronavirus. The region, which includes 52 countries and territories, has logged 100,074,753 COVID-19 cases over the past two years. This amounts to more than one-third of the 288,279,803 infections reported globally since pandemic started in late 2019 in China.

Of the cases reported in Europe, over 4.9 million have been recorded over the past seven days alone… (HT – AFP, January 2, 2022)
